Taking a Walk
You’d think that taking a walk around the block shouldn’t be that big a deal, but for me, it really is. I am woefully out of shape, and since the beginning of this year, I have been trying to get into some better shape. I started with diet, and I kind of ended there. Then, I got pretty sick, and went off of everything completely. Well, as part of day one of being back on the diet, I decided to go for a walk around the block after dinner.
The last time that I had gone on a walk around the block, I ended up with a Charlie horse cramp in my calf after only one loop. It was so damned painful, that I could barely walk the rest of the day. It made it so that I was less and less interested in going for a walk, and I always made excuses not to go. So, tonight, having made two circuits around the block was a big deal for me. It’s a small block, but it’s a start in the right direction. It just seems that I am feeling inordinately proud of myself for having done something that is so relatively simple. I could have probably gone more, but I got dizzy due to some continuing complications with the illness I recently suffered.
Maybe, if I manage to wake up before it gets hellishly hot outside I will try to go for a walk at least once around the block to start my day. That would, of course, be dependent on me waking up on time, which is probably not going to happen, because well, I am me. These healthful changes will happen one step at a time (haha! See what I did there?).
